Nepal Livelihood Projects
Building a better future for the world’s poorest communities
For the people of Nepal, a sustainable livelihood means being able to feed their families, educate their children, and build a better future. But for the 42% of the population living in extreme poverty, even these simple hopes seem very far away.
At OHF, we’re changing this. Our Livelihood Projects provide the poor and remote communities of Lalitpur, Kaski, Kavre and Bhojpur with the skills training, tools and capital they need to grow profitable businesses, overcome discrimination, and build a stronger community. With your support, we can empower people to rise out of poverty and make the most of their strengths, hard work and potential. Together, we can put hope back into the hearts of thousands.

DONATE NOWThe people of Nepal face some of the greatest challenges in the world…
Building a good life in Nepal is far from easy. Growing inequality, political shifts, gender discrimination, and the catastrophic effect of the 2015 earthquake have plunged almost half of the population into extreme poverty.
The individuals we work with have faced unimaginable challenges. Many have never had the opportunity to learn to read or write, let alone the skills required to get a good job. For those who earn a small income through farming, life is always precarious and difficult.
We give communities the tools to overcome them.
The people of Nepal are stoic and resilient, but to build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities, they need skills training, capital and support in the areas that matter most.
Guided by insights from the communities themselves, OHF gives on-the-ground training and support to empower individuals to grow their own sustainable businesses, no matter their gender or caste.
Chicken Farming
Helping the poorest build a future-proof livelihood
Poultry farming can offer a profitable livelihood for families, but traditional methods of farming provide limited income.
We empower 10 poor farmers in each community to increase their income with technical training in poultry farming. Once the farmers have learned what it takes to run a successful business, we help them build their own chicken farm and provide the first 200-400 chicks. To future-proof their business, the farmers are also set up with insurance on a cost-sharing basis
