Family background

Cheum Rathanaka is a 8 year old girl studying in grade 3. Her father passed away due to brain cancer and her widow mother works in the construction site in another province earning US$150 a month. The family has a debt incurred from treating her father in the hospital before he passed away. The earning from the mother is use to repay the debts and to feed and support 4 children and 2 elderly parents. Cheum Rathanaka and her siblings are staying with her grandparents as their house is spoilt and not suitable for living. Because they are poor, they receive government support of 54000riels = S$16.20 a month
