Safe drinking water
for thirsty students!

Students in Cambodia urgently need access to safe drinking water in their schools because the absence of taps and clean water sources poses significant health risks .Without safe water, students are vulnerable to waterborne diseases that can lead to frequent illness and absenteeism. Providing safe drinking water not only ensures better health outcomes but also promotes a conducive learning environment, improved attendance, and increased educational opportunities for a brighter future.

Contaminated water, whether due to improper sanitation practices poses serious health risks. Particularly concerning is the impact on children, who are more vulnerable to the health effects of waterborne diseases. Exposure to water tainted by faecal matter can lead to illness and even death among young children. Ensuring clean and safe water sources is paramount to safeguarding the health and well-being of communities, especially the most vulnerable members.

Some 40 percent of primary schools and 35 percent of health centers in the country do not have access to safe water and sanitation, it said.

The lack of access to clean water and sanitation in Cambodia has profound implications, affecting not only schools and health centers but also the health and well-being of its citizens, particularly children. Tragically, diarrhea is the second leading cause of death among children under five, as noted by UNICEF. This issue exacts both a human and economic toll on the country.
