Family background

Rin Lika is a 9-year-old girl studying in grade 4 and every day she will walk 1km to school. Her father is a daily odd job laborer earning around US$150/S$197 a month. Her mother is not working as she is paralysis on one side of her body and cannot walk. Her mother’s medical treatment is 300000Riels = S$90 a month and the family spent 150,000riels =S$45 a month to buy rice. This family is very poor, so they receive 33000riels =S$9.90 a month from the government as support for the poor. The father’s salary has to support 6 members in the family hence he cannot afford to give pocket money for the children to go to school and his children needs to walk to school as he cannot afford to buy them bicycles.
