Family background

Sao Matis is a 9 year old girl studying in grade 3. Both her parents work at another province far away from home. Sao Matis is taken care of by her 72 years old grandmother. As the parents are daily rated odd job laborers, they are only able to send back 100000riels = S$24 a month which is not enough to buy rice as a kg of rice in Cambodia is around US$0.35 to US$0.49 a kg. Matis and her grandmother often run out of rice and goes hungry. Because they are poor, they receive monthly government help of 62000riels = S$15.25
