Family background

Aakash arrived at our orphanage when he was just 4 years old, coming from the remote Jumla district of Nepal. A few years earlier, he lost his mother to bone marrow cancer, leaving him in the care of his elderly grandmother. His father, burdened with debt from his wife’s treatment, struggles to support the family by selling herbs in Surkhet during the winter and farming when he can. With his father often away and food scarce, Aakash’s grandmother could no longer care for him. His father was desperate, made the difficult decision to send Aakash to the OHF orphanage in Nepal.
