Family background

Tam Satin is a 5-year-old girl currently studying in Kindergarten. Her father has passed away, and her mother, now a widow, works as a village worker earning approximately 150,000 riels per month (about SGD 27–28). Due to the poor condition of their home, which leaks during heavy rain, Satin and her mother are currently staying at her aunt’s house. Her mother’s income is used to cover basic necessities such as rice and food, as well as Satin’s school expenses. Because of their financial hardship, the family also receives government assistance of 62,000 riels per month, which is approximately SGD 11–12.
