Family background

Thol Panha is an 8-year-old boy currently studying in Grade 2. He attends school without shoes. His father, an ice-cream seller in the village, is paralyzed in one leg and earns approximately 300,000 riels per month (about SGD 55–56). His father’s income is used to support 7 family members ( four children and the grandparent). The family also faces significant financial burdens, including debts from a failed business, and a monthly bank repayment of US$150 (approximately SGD 210). The family receives government support of 84,000 riels per month, which is approximately SGD 15–16.
