Family background

Then Tevy is a 10-year-old girl currently studying in Grade 5. Her father works as an electricity worker in Phnom Penh, earning approximately US$250 per month, while her mother is a housewife. There are three children in the family, and the father’s income is used to support the household—covering school expenses for two children, as well as monthly rice and daily food needs. The family also carries a monthly debt repayment of US$154 for a motorbike, which is essential for the father to travel to work and earn a living. Due to their financial hardship, the family receives government assistance of 74,000 riels per month, which is approximately SGD 13–14.
