Family background

Nal Nearyroth is an 8-year-old girl studying in Grade 2. Her parents are divorced. Her father sends about 200,000 riels per month (approximately SGD 66) to support the three children, while her mother works in a factory earning around US$210 per month (approximately SGD 283). Her mother is seriously ill with breast cancer and can only send 50,000 riels per month (approximately SGD 16) to help support the children. The three children are primarily cared for by their grandparents, who are in their seventies, while the family relies on the support of a nearby aunt for daily food. The family also faces significant debt incurred during childbirth, with monthly repayments and interest adding to their financial burden.
