Family background
Chakriya, an 11-year-old girl in Grade 4, and her sister, Sennisa, a 10-year-old girl in Grade 2, come from a struggling family of four siblings. Their eldest brother, now 16, had to drop out of school in Grade 4 and spent three years as a monk. He now works as a daily laborer, but due to his young age, he can only handle light work and earns very little.
Their father is disabled and relies on seasonal work caring for ducks on a farm. However, this job is highly unstable, as it depends on the availability of ducks. In the past, he brought his family to live on the farm, but the harsh conditions caused the children to fall sick. Eventually, their mother took them back home, leaving the father alone at the farm, where he too fell ill. Recently, he lost his job entirely after the owner sold all the ducks, and he has yet to receive his wages.
In an attempt to support the family, their mother tried selling food in the village, but she struggled to find customers. With no stable income, no food, and no means to send Chakriya and her sister to school, their parents made the difficult decision to send them to our orphanage, hoping for a better future for their daughters
