Sinoeun and his younger brother, Sineath, come from a struggling single-parent household. Their father left the family and remains uncontactable, while their mother works in Thailand to support them. However, she is burdened with monthly debt repayments, making it difficult to provide for the family. The brothers live with their grandmother and great-grandmother in a rural Cambodian village. Every day, their grandmother collects and sells cow dung for just 2,500 riels (S$0.80) per bag—an income that barely sustains them. Their mother’s earnings and their grandmother’s hard work are still not enough to cover daily expenses or send the boys to school, which is 4 km away. With their great-grandmother now 92 years old, the family faces even greater challenges. Recognizing their hardship, the village chief recommended Sinoeun and Sineath to OHF, hoping to ease the family’s burden and provide the boys with an opportunity for a better future through education.
