Family background

Then and Chanthy are sisters who have faced many hardships from a young age. Their father passed away, and five years ago, their mother left the family and has been uncontactable ever since. She left the two sisters and their younger brother in the care of their elderly grandparents, who struggle to make ends meet. Without their own rice field, the grandparents rely on daily wage work, helping other villagers plant rice when work is available. On days without work, they search for small fish, snails, or crabs to feed the children. Recently, a kind-hearted donor in Cambodia provided them with a house, offering some relief—but the growing needs of the children, especially education, remain a heavy burden. As the cost of raising three grandchildren increases, the grandparents find it difficult to provide enough food or afford school expenses. Hoping to give Then and Chanthy a brighter future, they made the decision to send them to HVPV, where they can receive an education and pursue better opportunities in life.
