Family background

Charya Veyor is a 10-year-old boy currently studying in Grade 3. His father works as a daily-rated construction worker, earning about US$250 (approximately SGD 350) per month, while her mother has just given birth and is unable to work. The family has three children, and the father’s income is used to buy rice and daily necessities and to send two of the children to school. Additional expenses, such as diapers for the newborn, place further strain on the family’s finances. Because they are living in poverty, they also receive government support of 73,000 riels per month (approximately SGD 24).
